for the first time the vette has a rear transaxle. stiffer structure and softer springs that improved the handling. base price for the '97 was $37,495
the '97 did 0-60 in 4.7 seconds and 1/4 mile of 13.3mph
and a top speed of 173 mph !
full analog instrument panel replacing the analog/digital C4 panel..
No CONVERTIBLES in '97 ! nop

1998 : New active handling system was designed for skids in severe cornering manouver. convertible was back after 1 year abscense. 31,084 corvette's produced.the '98 convertible was the first since '62 to have a true trunk !
the '98 indy 500 pace vette got intake and exhuast tweeksthat boosted its HP to 370. the '98 was the fourth vette to pace the indy 500.

new hardtop body style starting at $38,777. New heads up display. telescoping steering column.
11,161 convertibles madeand 18,078 coupes.
Hardtops only had 6 speed manual trans.
